After the success of the First Charity Auction that took place in 2007 at Colegio Marín, many good expectations were raised. During the previous days, the wish to contribute to the cause of Oficios Foundation and the will to do good business, with plots of land auctioned at half their price, had already guaranteed great attendance. Places were almost all booked. The evening of September 18, the Second Charity Auction of plots opened at the Tattersal reception room situated in Hipódromo de San Isidro (San Isidro´s horse racetrack). The number of participants, the organization level, the warmth of the event hosted by Teté Coustarot and the plots auctioned by Gervasio Sáenz Valiente became a new milestone in the history of this charity auction, organized by the founder companies: Cardón, Eidico, JP Urruti and Miguens Hermanos.
The charity event started with a cocktail that welcomed the participants. The five real estate developers (Eidico, Cardón Cosas Nuestras, JP Urruti, Mieres and Grupo Tissone) displayed, at their stands, maps and images of the neighbourhoods and plots that were going to be auctioned.
The history of Oficios Foundation and the great task carried out since 2006 training people from poorer areas to achieve job placement and integration into society were projected on the big screens of the reception room.
After 8 p.m., Teté Custarot, on the stage, could not hide her amazement: "It is really astonishing to see how greatly this idea, which was born last year, has developed." Sergio Moreno, executive director of the Foundation, before starting the auction he would conduct, highlighted the importance of "walking along the hope and the wish of progress that the students have." "It is very nice to be, every day, surrounded by people who actually believe in second chances.”
Gervasio Sáenz Valiente offered his vast experience and his ad honorem work to this cause. With his magnetism and strength, he performed an excellent task. “You don´t really think about these actions, but enjoy them; I said the same when I got married," he joked showing how at ease he felt, as he encouraged the guests to “make their bids”.
When the auction finished, there was a draw intended to collect money for the Foundation. Patricio Lanusse, partner of Eidico and member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation, took the opportunity to speak about the double attractive of the day. "I think that those who bought a plot today have paid for it significantly less than the actual market value, and have contributed to help the society offer equal opportunities for everyone."
The success of the auction was reflected on the organizers´ faces. Everybody was tired but satisfaction could not be hidden. Gabo Nazar, founder and president of Cardón, was satisfied with the level of organization and emphasized "the support of the participants who, just as we, understand that the best way to do business is helping to strengthen the communities within which we develop". And in this way, a day that will remain characteristic and that promises to be back next year came to an end.
